Metro Redux Is Getting a Next-Gen Update!

The bundle containing Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux is coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. PC players will also receive an update.

As a huge thank you to players, 4A Games and Deep Silver are announcing a free update for all Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux owners that will make several improvements and enhancements for modern hardware. For longtime Metro fans, now is the best time to return to the Metro tunnels. Relive the story and action, and feel the weight of the cold, foreboding tunnels stretching ahead, filled with unknown horrors and adventure. This time around, we should try a different playthrough approach and get a different ending using the Karma system or simply immerse ourselves back into the beautifully destroyed world. New players can join the 50 million who have fallen in love with our acclaimed Metro storytelling. Prepare for Metro 2039, coming February 4.

This is not a full remaster or remake—the original Metro Redux experience and aesthetic has been preserved—but the developers have made careful, meaningful improvements to take advantage of the latest PC and console hardware. All platforms will support 4K textures, which will bring greater depth and atmosphere to the haunting world of Metro. The update enhances gameplay immersion through improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, and richer environmental detail. They have also implemented a range of community-led bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

The next-gen update adds native support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as platform-specific enhancements. These include PSSR support on the PlayStation 5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing support on the Xbox Series X, and spatial audio support on Xbox platforms. Players can experience true 4K/60 FPS and upscaled 4K/120 FPS (with the right monitor or TV hardware), as well as higher-quality lighting, shadows, and particle effects. Additionally, it supports Adaptive Triggers for DualSense controllers and Impulse Triggers for Xbox controllers. Players will also benefit from hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime on consoles, Power Optimized Mode on Xbox, and Power Saver Mode support on PlayStation.

With Xbox Handheld and Xbox Play Anywhere support, the journey through the Metro can continue wherever you choose. For PC, they have implemented DLSS and spatial audio support, as well as quality-of-life improvements and frequently requested bug fixes. Full patch notes detailing all technical improvements and platform-specific features will be revealed at launch, so this is just a preview.

Metro Redux will be released on October 29 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The next-gen update will be available for free on October 22 for PC, and anyone who owns the games on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also receive the update for free. Metro Redux has also been released on the Nintendo Switch, but the Switch 2 was left out of the mix.
