Nvidia’s Blackwell Architecture Finally Tops the Steam Charts!

TECH NEWS – It took quite some time for an RTX 5000 graphics card to become the most popular in Steam’s monthly hardware survey.

Now, one of the cards from the GeForce RTX 5000 series holds the top spot on the latest list. Previously, the RTX 4060 and RTX 3060 shared the top spot, which they held for quite some time. However, last month, the older 60-series cards lost their leading position, and the RTX 5000 series took the lead.

According to the September Steam Hardware Survey, the GeForce RTX 5070 is currently the most popular GPU, with a 6.15% market share — one of the highest percentages in years. The market share of the most popular GPUs usually hovers around 3–4%, so this is the first time a GPU has crossed the 6% threshold. This unusual surge in popularity prompted us to ask: What has actually changed? In September, the proportion of systems running Simplified Chinese increased by nearly 7.42%, which is clearly the main reason for the fluctuations in the GPU rankings. Without this change, the RTX 5070 would not have been able to claim the top spot so easily. While it’s possible the RTX 5070 would have come close to first place — it already held a respectable 3.77% share in August — it would not have crossed the 6% threshold in just one month.

The RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 series cards are also among the market leaders. The RTX 5060 holds a 4.40% market share, and the RTX 5060 Ti holds a 4.06% share. We expect the rankings to change again next month, with the RTX 4060/3060 potentially regaining the top spot. Meanwhile, a sudden surge in Chinese market share has led to the 32 GB RAM configuration overtaking the 16 GB configuration as the most popular. The 32 GB configuration currently holds nearly a 42.22% share, while the 16 GB configuration has dropped to 37.82%. These two capacities have been very close to each other for months, so it’s possible that the 16 GB configuration will retake the lead next month.

There have also been other significant changes in the Steam Hardware Survey data. However, due to the fluctuations in the Chinese-language share, these changes are not very meaningful. Perhaps internet cafes have distorted the results too much!

Grabbing controllers since the middle of the nineties. Mostly he has no idea what he does - and he loves Diablo III. (Not.)
