Activision’s Halo Reboot Could Tell Master Chief’s Origin Story

GAMING NEWS – The next Halo is rumored to be a hard reboot centered on Master Chief’s past, and it may even run on Call of Duty technology.

Activision reportedly considered two separate Halo projects at first: a free-to-play multiplayer game and a standalone campaign. Those plans were later cancelled, and the company is now said to be focusing on a single full-scale mainline installment.

According to a source cited by credible Halo insider Rebs Gaming, the new project could explore Master Chief’s origin story and restart the franchise as a hard reboot. This would mean no direct sequel to Halo Infinite, while parts of the existing lore could also be rewritten.

“They have heard that Activision is considering a full reboot and making a Master Chief origin story. This means we aren’t getting a direct Halo Infinite sequel, and at least some of Halo story will be rebooted,” Rebs Gaming reported.

Activision is already said to be assembling a development team, expected to operate under Sledgehammer Games. Basic gameplay prototypes, including player movement, had already been tested for the earlier concepts.

Those prototypes were built with Call of Duty’s Infinity Ward engine. Based on that work, the mainline Halo title may use the same technology instead of Unreal Engine 5, marking a substantial technical shift for the series.

None of these details has been formally confirmed, so the reboot, origin-story premise, and engine choice remain reports for now. Still, the information suggests Activision is planning an ambitious new era for Halo.
