Gears of War: E-Day Developers Are Proud of Its Xbox Exclusivity

GAMING NEWS – The Coalition says the exclusive launch both honors the franchise’s legacy and validates the quality of the team’s work.

Gears of War: E-Day marks Xbox’s return to exclusive releases after the company experimented with bringing several first-party games to other platforms. The Coalition’s developers are proud that their title was chosen to represent that change.

The franchise has been closely tied to the Xbox brand since the early Xbox 360 era, so the team believes exclusivity fits naturally with Gears’ legacy. Creative director Matt Searcy described the position as an honor.

Studio art director Aryan Hanbeck shared the same view, saying the whole team is proud to ship E-Day as an Xbox exclusive. He believes Microsoft’s decision also demonstrates how strongly the publisher values the quality of The Coalition’s work.

“We’re proud to be called out to be an exclusive, and I think in a way it’s a validation of the work we’ve done,” Hanbeck said.

For the developers, this is therefore more than a business decision. Gears of War could once again become a central part of Xbox’s identity, and E-Day will be expected to prove the strength of the renewed exclusive strategy.

It remains to be seen how the game performs over the long term. Its early Steam figures are not exceptional, although E-Day has already managed to outperform Gears 5 during early access.
