I’m already waiting for Ghost of Tsushima 2, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this feeling. Fortunately, this sequel is practically the worst-kept secret in the industry. Sucker Punch has been quietly working on something for the past four years, and it looks like this game will be a sequel to Jin Sakai’s acclaimed adventure.

Remember the “Live from PS5” marketing campaign? This debuted in 2023 and featured clips from games that all launched natively on the PlayStation 5 at launch. However, there were two puzzling elements: an Uncharted-looking game with a female protagonist that we still haven’t gotten an explanation for. Also a few short frames of Jin Sakai.

Many interpreted this as a quiet teaser for the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, yet it’s a little strange that more than 18 months later, the project remains a secret. Adding fuel to the fire earlier this year was the ever-reliable Jason Schreier’s statement that Sucker Punch was working on Ghost of Tsushima 2 – a game expected to take at least five years to develop, with a 2025 release date, but it is more likely to be expected later…

Now that State of Play is rumoured to be held next week, could the Ghost of Tsushima 2 reveal be almost here?

We all hope so, but fans are divided on what they want to see in the game.

“A future Ghost defending Japan from *gasp* any colonizing force of Europeans would honestly be dope,” suggested Reddit user Lola_PopBBae. It’s all not that different from what we saw in this year’s Rise of the Ronin. However, others would prefer to see the game’s plot continue in the same era.

“If they were to do another Ghost story, being about either the second Mongol invasion (1281) or even taking place in the Sengoku Period, honestly, there’s so much they can do with the idea and they don’t have to stay historically accurate considering Ghost is wildly fantasized as far as being a Samurai in 1274 on Tsushima Island could be,” said Wooble_R.

“The Mongols attempted to invade Japan twice, both times led by Kublai Khan. In the first Ghost of Tsushima, we fought his cousin so I assume in the second, we could fight Kublai Khan himself,” Siegfried85 pointed out.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s pretty likely that Sucker Punch isn’t short of ideas. Let’s hope the much-anticipated reveal isn’t too far off. What would you most like to see in the sequel?
