In the video embedded below from MxBenchmarkPC, you can see how the open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds, which is available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, runs on PC. He ran it on a PC and used a relatively new graphics card, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, to see how the monster hunt went. Well, it’s safe to say that the beta version of the game isn’t very polished yet!

Running Monster Hunter Wilds in native 1080p on the RTX 4070 with the highest settings, it can’t quite maintain a 60 fps frame rate. In the larger, more open areas, it could drop to 50 or even forty-something! If you’ve enabled the upscaling and frame generation technologies provided by Nvidia’s DLSS, the situation changes and you can achieve frame rates above 60 fps at both 1080p and 1440p resolutions.

This seems a bit worrying, even though Capcom has openly stated in the system requirements that frame rate generation is required to run Monster Hunter Wilds at 60 FPS on the specifications they have given. And for those who don’t want to (or can’t) use such technologies, what happened? It certainly seems like it, but it’s certainly scary that on a mid-range graphics card, if this is the performance, there’s room for improvement for Capcom, who will surely be working on it over the next few months.

Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on February 28th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. Monster Hunter: World, the previous major installment in the franchise that took the IP mainstream, hasn’t gone that route yet, arriving on PC just months after PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The new episode puts that past behind it.
