If you’re familiar with the Sniper Elite series, you probably know Rebellion, the veteran UK-based game studio. Established in 1992, the company has developed numerous games, but its most ambitious project yet appears to be Atomfall, a post-nuclear survival experience launching this month. With its mix of mystery, survival, and nonlinear storytelling, it’s already being called the “British Fallout” by the gaming community.

Rebellion, however, is keen to clarify that, while comparisons to Fallout are inevitable, Atomfall is an entirely distinct experience. Art director Ryan Greene explained in an IGN interview that, although the game shares some thematic elements with Fallout—such as its post-apocalyptic setting and dangerous robotic adversaries—it differentiates itself through its unique approach to storytelling and gameplay.

“Once you spend some time playing it, you realize this is something completely different,” Greene said. “Plus, one of our owners, Jason Kingsley, is a huge Fallout fan.”

Unlike Fallout, Atomfall does not follow a single, overarching main quest. Instead, its narrative unfolds in a nonlinear and fragmented fashion, allowing players to explore multiple interconnected storylines at their own pace. A central mystery ties everything together, encouraging deep exploration and immersion. Moreover, decisions made in Campaign Mode influence how side quests develop, making every playthrough feel dynamic and unpredictable.
