The developer who got known via Gears of War flopped with Lawbreakers, and he doesn’t want to work on games anymore.

Boss Key Productions, the developers behind Lawbreakers (launched on August 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC, then turned to a free-to-play game, only to be closed), also got affected, as the team shut down. Then, Cliff Bleszinski, the co-founder of Boss Key, said on Twitter that he would take a bit of time away to reflect, but this tweet was deleted. Why?

A newly registered Twitter account wrote the following to Bleszinski: „You all won’t refund players who stuck with you all and spent money for you all to keep up the content. Cliff I looked up to you during the gears of war days and sad to see you where you are at. Wish you’d come back. Now all that money is waisted.” [sic!]

CliffyB has responded: „I paid my employees, their 401ks, and their health care – even months after the studio folded, so they could care for their families. I didn’t take a salary myself for two years. I get you’re sad, but god, this kinda shit is another reason I am NEVER making another game.” And it wasn’t likely that the rage talked from within Cliff, as later on, he said that he is „done.”

Zach Lowery, an ex-Boss Key employee, has also commented: „Hmmm, my severance was only 3 weeks… months must be getting shorter and shorter in retirement.” Bleszinski said that he may have used a hyperbole, but he would like to think he did the right thing.

So, CliffyB seems to leave the gaming industry behind for good. Sure, Microsoft could contact him again (after all, they are expanding big time this year…), but we’re not sure they have enough money bags to make Bleszinski have a second thought.

Source: GamesIndustry

@therealcliffyb @lawbreakers You all won’t refund players who stuck with you all and spent money for you all to keep up the content.
