The release period was only known so far for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered – something Square Enix will not follow. So, how much of a delay will we get?

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has been a Nintendo GameCube-exclusive for one and a half decades. This action-RPG is now getting a remaster, but it will not come out in 2019. Final Fantasy’s Twitter account revealed that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered, which is in development for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and, surprisingly, iOS and Android (we wouldn’t have expected mobile platforms, to be fair!), will arrive on January 23, 2020. So there is only a one-month delay here – Square Enix probably didn’t want to push the game out in September.

The original game (which was critically praised in 2004) got a big marketing move with the Game Boy Advance. We could have connected it to our GameCube with a Link Cable, and there was couch co-op with four players if we all had a Game Boy Advance and a Link Cable each. However, this was not the only change from the regular Final Fantasy games at that time. Crystal Chronicles dropped the classic turn-based battle system in favour of action-RPG style combat, seen recently in Final Fantasy XV.

Luckily, this multiplayer, cooperative idea is kept in the Remastered version (without Game Boy Advances this time), as the game will contain online multiplayer. Also, we do need to mention that there will be cross-play, too, so PlayStation 4, Switch, iOS, and Android users can play together.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered already got a Tokyo Game Show trailer (you can see it below – it should give you a quick taste what the game can offer). It will launch on January 23 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
