Insomniac Games, which now belongs under Sony Interactive Entertainment, might even announce shortly that Marvel’s Spider-Man from last Autumn could go from one to two.

The PlayStation 4-exclusive title was released in September 2018, and by the end of August, it moved about thirteen million copies, which – seeing its success – isn’t a miracle. Thus, it’s a question of time when the second game could happen. Imran Khan, who formerly was a news editor at GameInformer, is now a reliable insider, and he showed up on the newest episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast. Here, he said the following: „I know too much about [Marvel’s Spider-Man 2], so I can’t speculate too much. I think a Spider-Man 2 will come sooner than we think.”

Later, Khan also mentions that the game’s potential release window is the Holiday season of 2021, which makes sense: then, Insomniac would have three years to put together Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which would probably launch on the PlayStation 5 by then. The studio would have some time as well to learn the tricks of the PlayStation 5 devkit (which, along with the unofficially named DualShock 5 at the moment, got leaked on several photos before). However, Sony’s first-party, internal studios tend to get more time to develop their games.

The other two franchises that are effectively open secrets with their respective sequels are Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica’s God of War, and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn. We wouldn’t rule out the latter to be amongst the PlayStation 5 launch titles, as with the PlayStation 4, Guerrilla had Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Will we hear something about the exclusives’ sequels in the rumoured February PlayStation 5 reveal? We’ll see. (And then Sony might troll us and pull out Knack 3…)
