After the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/span> will have a similar approach.<\/p>\n

Hermen Hulst wrote about this subject on the PlayStation Blog<\/a><\/span>. Since he was formerly at the helm of Guerrilla Games, and now, he’s the Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss, he knows best, and he has insight on what the studios throughout the world are developing.<\/p>\n

\u201eWe\u2019re very committed to dedicated hardware, as we were before. We\u2019re gonna continue to do that. And we\u2019re very committed to quality exclusives. And to strong narrative-driven, single-player games. At the same time, we\u2019re going to be very open to experimentation, to new ideas. Just trying things out to see what works. I think that\u2019s also very much part of the DNA of Worldwide Studios,\u201d Hulst wrote. By dedicated hardware, he means consoles that run the games locally. The reason why he brought up the exclusives is that Horizon Zero Dawn is going to get a PC version three years after the PlayStation 4 original.<\/p>\n

And why should Sony change this approach? The PlayStation 4 sold more than a hundred million units in a little over six years, and the exclusives had a significant role in achieving this. Single-player, story-driven exclusives, such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, or hell, even Horizon Zero Dawn (we should expect all three of these games to get a sequel – they will be announced eventually…). And there are two more exclusives on the PlayStation 4 that will also follow this formula, namely Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II<\/strong><\/em> and Sucker Punch’ Ghost of Tsushima<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The PlayStation 5 will launch this Holiday season. Its price and launch line-up are unknown – we wouldn’t be surprised if one of them will be a single-player, story-focused exclusive title.<\/p>\n
