If you don’t have a next-gen<\/strong><\/em> console or a strong enough PC, don’t expect Cyberpunk 2077<\/strong><\/em> to run better this year.<\/p>\n

The Polish developers, signed by Marcin Iwinski, Adam Kicinski, Adam Badowski, Micha\u0142 Nowakowski, Piotr Nielubowicz, and Piotr Karwowski, issued an apology on their website<\/a><\/span>. Let’s see what they had to say: \u201eDear gamers, first of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4<\/strong><\/em> and Xbox One<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Second, we will fix bugs and crashes, and improve the overall experience. The first round of updates has just been released and the next one is coming within the next seven days. Expect more, as we will update frequently whenever new improvements are ready. After the holidays, we\u2019ll continue working\u2014we\u2019ll release two large patches starting with Patch #1 in January. This will be followed by Patch #2 in February. Together these should fix the most prominent problems gamers are facing on last-gen consoles. We will be informing you about the contents of each patch ahead of their release. They won\u2019t make the game on last-gen look like it\u2019s running on a high-spec PC<\/strong><\/em> or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.<\/p>\n

Finally, we would always like everyone who buys our games to be satisfied with their purchase. We would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don\u2019t want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy. For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PlayStation Network or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at helpmerefund@cdprojektred.com and we will do our best to help you. Starting from today, you can contact us for a week up until December 21, 2020. PC gamers will also be getting regular updates and fixes improving the game,\u201d the team wrote.<\/p>\n

Digital Foundry released a new analysis. In it, they investigate Cyberpunk 2077’s performance on PlayStation 5<\/strong><\/em>, Xbox Series X<\/strong><\/em>, and Xbox Series S<\/strong><\/em>. They run the game’s current-gen version via backwards compatibility, as the next-gen patch is not available until early next year. On PlayStation 5, the settings and resolution are locked to what the PlayStation 4 Pro offers, resulting in 1188p resolution and a nearly stable 60 FPS frame rate that only drops into the fifties when driving.<\/p>\n

The situation is a little different on the Xbox Series consoles. On Xbox Series X, you can choose between a Performance and a Quality mode. The former runs the game at 1080p\/60 FPS, while the latter increases the resolution to between 1512p and 1728p, adding more graphical detail (increased crowd density, ambient occlusion, and more detailed reflections), but locking the frame rate to 30 FPS. The Xbox Series X Performance mode runs the game a little worse than the PlayStation 5 does: during more frantic firefights, the frame rate can dip into the forties. On the Xbox Series S, we get just one graphical mode, mostly taking cues from the big brother’s Quality mode. It runs on 1296p at mostly 30 FPS, although Cyberpunk 2077 can drop to 25-26 FPS on this console. HDR barely functions as it should on all three consoles.<\/p>\n
