After the launch of Crysis Remastered, it was a question of time to see Crytek announce the second and the third Crysis game get their respective modernized version. It happened: Crysis Remastered Trilogy is going to contain all three games (no, the Crytek Budapest-developed Warhead is not part of it) on newer platforms, but those who plan to play the game on the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X should not prepare to see even better visuals than on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One…

Digital Foundry interviewed Crytek. The studio confirmed that Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 would not get a native next-gen version so that the new consoles will get backwards compatibility and nothing more. The studio added that the PlayStation 5 would also face a resolution handicap! The PS5 will target a native 1440p resolution with 60 FPS for frame rate, while the Xbox Series X will aim for a slightly higher resolution (so neither will go for a native 4K…).

Crytek didn’t plan with the new hardware, and we can safely say it: there won’t be several graphics modes either. Don’t expect to see the traditional Performance and Quality modes that aim for a higher frame rate or resolution, respectively. There will be no ray tracing either! Instead, the next-gen consoles will get a single option that balances resolution and performance.

Saber Interactive (with Crytek also being involved!) will improve the games over the originals: the textures have been upgraded, and new lighting, including real-time global illumination, has been added. Crysis Remastered was based on the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 code, but Crysis 2 and Crysis 3’s new versions will be based on the PC code on all platforms!

Crysis Remastered Trilogy, costing 60 bucks for all three games (you can buy them separately, too), will launch this autumn on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The video below showcases Crysis 2 Remastered on PlayStation 5. If you want better graphics, play on a modern PC…

(The second video showcases an Xbox 360 – Xbox Series X comparison.)

Source: WCCFTech
