In House of the Dragon<\/a><\/span>, Milly Alcock plays none other than Rhaenyra Targaryen, the current heir to the Iron Throne. While her position may not last long, the actress is aware that the dangerous stakes of the series are part of what makes the world of Westeros so alluring.<\/p>\n

George R. R. Martin is the author of the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was used to adapt Game of Thrones, and he set a precedent for the deaths of the main characters. Before 2011, audiences rarely saw a series that starred characters who ended up dying an untimely, gruesome and shocking death. In the penultimate episode of the first season, Baelor, we saw the show’s protagonist and hero Ned Stark (Sean Bean) beheaded at the behest of Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson).<\/p>\n

This sets the stage for the rest of the series, in which countless characters have fallen to poison, bloody battle or evil treachery.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If anything, Game of Thrones was consistently remembered for its iconic death scenes, and Milly Alcock agrees.<\/p>\n

In an interview with TheWrap, the House of the Dragon star talked about her love for Game of Thrones and why she thinks the series has been such a huge success. While preparing for her prominent role in the HBO fantasy series, Milly Alcock found time to watch GOT while learning about the world created by George R.R. Martin. She says she quickly discovered the series’ main appeal.<\/p>\n

“It’s just such a clever show. No one is safe.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“I think that that is something that audiences aren’t given a lot of the time. We kind of have this in the back of our mind like, ‘Oh, they’re not going to kill off the main character.’… It’s like, ‘No, Game of Thrones really likes to flip that on its head; that’s why I loved it. I was like, ‘No one is safe.’ It exceeded my expectations every time.”<\/em><\/p>\n

For now, it remains to be seen whether House of the Dragon will live up to its predecessor and present such memorably horrific events as the Red Wedding – we’re certainly optimistic for further episodes.<\/p>\n
