In one of the strangest Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered mods, it allows players to play the game with IGN’s low review score icon. The same score as the recently released Gotham Knights…

For fans of weird mods, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered now gives you a chance to replace Peter Parker with an IGN score icon. And not just any icon: the middling critical score that the recently released Batman game Gotham Knights received. This may be the most bizarre mod yet for Insomniac’s open-world superhero game. This is saying quite a lot, as there’s already been an imaginative mod where Uncle Ben’s tombstone replaced Spider-Man.

By now, it’s clear that Gotham Knights’ debut isn’t going as many had hoped.

The critical reception has been mixed so far. Critics complain about everything from poor gameplay and design choices to a damaging amount of bugs and performance issues. Even the more positive reviews of Gotham Knights note that the game falls short of its potential in crucial ways. The game’s overall mood is perhaps best summed up by IGN’s review, which gave the game a score of 5 out of 10.

This score has now been mockingly commemorated with Marvel’s Spider-Man skin mod by Princec23, and it’s truly spectacular. The “Gotham Knights IGN Review Score” costume does exactly what the name suggests. It replaces Spidey with a red hexagon with the IGN review score on the front and the Gotham Knights logo on the back. What’s more, the review score has no animations! This makes the gameplay footage shared by Princec23, in which a rigid hexagon beats up criminals, even more surreal.

In contrast to Gotham Knights, the overall reception of this wacky Spider-Man mod has been quite positive.

On Nexus Mods, over 5,100 views and tons of comments praise the mod’s quirkiness. They point out that it playfully spoofs the program that inspired it. Even IGN took notice of the mod. They highlighted it in a video of the Spider-score going toe-to-toe with the Shocker, raining down a series of attacks and jokes.

As funny as it is, the mod’s existence may leave a bitter taste in the mouth of disappointed Batman fans. Gotham Knights was met with much hype before its release, with many hoping that Warner Bros. Montreal would fill the void left by Rocksteady’s acclaimed Arkham series.

Unfortunately, for many gamers, this was not the case.

It is not yet clear whether or not addressing the technical issues currently plaguing the game will save it. So it may sting rather than amuse to see the game being mocked in a more warmly received superhero game, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man. Even if it’s pretty funny by default.
