Gamestop’s CEO, Paul Raines mentioned when his company will begin selling Sony’s VR headset. Although he didn’t tell the price (probably he doesn’t know about it either), the launch date is a very significant detail about the PlayStation VR and we finally know that Sony’s virtual reality headset will be released this fall.
As Gamestop is a big retail chain in the United States, Sony considers them as an important partner.
Raines’ interview with Fox Business immediately denies the previous rumors about the PSVR launching in early 2016. The pricing is likely kept as a secret to see what the rivals, namely the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive will cost. The Rift’s price has been unveiled (600 dollars), but the Vive only has a pre-order date at the moment. Perhaps they are playing the same waiting game as Sony? Who knows?
At least, we don’t have to get extra peripherals for our PlayStation 4s to make them VR-compatible as Sony designed the console to have PSVR-support right out of the box.
