PlayStation-Branded Hard Drives Are Heading To Stores!

TECH NEWS – Sony announced on the PlayStation Blog that the Japanese company has teamed up with Seagate to release PlayStation-branded hard drives!

The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One usually come with either a 500 GB or a 1 TB internal hard drive. Sometimes, you might need more space than that, and Sony wants to fix the issue by offering a product called the Game Drive, which is a 2 TB external hard drive manufactured by Seagate!

Any PlayStation 4 model could use it (launch model, its replacement, PlayStation 4 Slim, or the PlayStation 4 Pro) if you have at least the 4.55 firmware installed on it. You won’t even have to format it – just take it out of its box, hook it to your PlayStation 4, and it’s ready to be used! It is powered via USB, meaning you don’t have to plug it into the wall either.

As Seagate previously teamed up with Microsoft for a similar product (2 TB hard drive to be used with both the Xbox One and Xbox 360), it’s not surprising. Oh yes, the price: it is going to cost 90 US dollars, and it will launch next week. (Canadian price? 120 CAD.) Unfortunately, we have no information about a European launch window or the pricing – the EU PS Blog has no announcement post about it at the moment… but we think the Game Drive is a little too expensive…
