According to sources, Activision Blizzard may be preparing to launch its next flagship ARPG, the long-awaited Diablo 4, in April 2023.
According to the latest information from several sources, it seems that Diablo 4’s release date is April 2023. Activision Blizzard’s long-awaited next entry in the venerable Diablo franchise is already known to be released sometime in 2023, but a more precise time window has yet to be officially announced.
Diablo 4 should revive the franchise as a number one offering on PC and consoles after its mobile-focused predecessor, Diablo Immortal, was widely criticized for its monetization system. While the details of Diablo 4’s own monetization haven’t been revealed yet, early leaks and other assorted information about the game look pretty promising so far.
According to information from Windows Central, Diablo 4 is expected to be released in April 2023. Specifically, this was first suggested by the XboxEra podcast, although Windows Central claims that various sources also tentatively support this. Blizzard has announced that Diablo 4’s closed beta will end soon and the game’s public testing phase will begin in early 2023, a schedule that will certainly support these new unofficial reveals. The said sources also claim that Blizzard will use The Game Awards 2022 to launch what is said to be a major media blitz campaign for Diablo 4.
There have been plenty of Diablo 4 leaks in 2022, hinting at features big and small, and much of the new information matches what we already know about the game. For example, Blizzard is committed to making Diablo 4 a live service game, not unlike what they do with recent Call of Duty games, and new information suggests that Diablo 4 Season 1 will be released sometime in the third quarter of 2023. from the looks of it, it would give early adopters some time to play through the core content before getting things started with live feature additions.
As one of the hottest games of 2022, Diablo 4 has the potential to bring the franchise back to its roots. All of the promotional materials suggest that Blizzard is trying to use the classic Diablo aesthetic and atmosphere instead of the softer, more cartoony look that fans have been asking for in Diablo 3. So the game itself is likely to please franchise veterans at launch, and future seasonal content will likely keep them coming back for an extended period of time.
However, it’s worth noting that Diablo Immortal has reportedly grossed over $300 million, which has been incredibly successful for the franchise. With that in mind, it’s pretty certain that Blizzard will try to apply Immortal’s own lessons to Diablo 4 when push comes to shove, and the only question is how far its own monetization can go.
Diablo 4 will be released in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
