MOVIE NEWS – The anticipation for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 is growing, with encouraging remarks from star Taylor Handley suggesting a bright future. Despite mixed critical reviews, Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown has seen an increase in praise, achieving a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Jeremy Renner’s return to the show after a traumatic accident has been well-received by both audiences and critics.
While Season 3 is still airing, excitement for Season 4 is already building. Although Paramount+ has yet to confirm another season, recent comments from Taylor Handley, who plays Kyle McLusky in the series, are promising. In a conversation with Screen Rant, Handley shared:
“I think everything is in a really good place right now. Everyone is eager to continue the show. It’s above my pay grade to know anything for certain. But from what I hear, things are looking positive.”
Part of Taylor Sheridan’s expanding Paramount+ universe, co-created by Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown delves into the dark underworld of a fictional town in Michigan, where the prison industry is the only thriving business. The story revolves around the McLusky family, who act as power brokers and mediators between various factions in Kingstown. Jeremy Renner stars as Mike McLusky, dubbed “The Mayor” for his unofficial role in maintaining order. Kyle McLusky, portrayed by Handley, is the youngest of the McLusky brothers, caught between family loyalty and his moral compass.
Mayor of Kingstown has never been a critics’ favorite, but its current season has seen a significant rise in praise, holding a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season had a 33% rating, but the series has found its footing over time. Despite mixed reviews, audiences love the show (even if they’re sometimes confused by the plot), and it maintains high viewership, making it one of Paramount+’s top shows.
Season 3 follows Renner’s traumatic snowplow accident on January 1, 2023, which left him with 38 broken bones and a punctured lung. Renner returned to filming after months of recovery, but it wasn’t easy. The actor recently shared that he realized he had been overworked during the current season’s shoot. Despite his struggles, Renner’s performance as the titular character has been praised by critics and audiences alike (FandomWire’s Season 3 review states Renner “stands out among the cast and delivers some of his best work”).
Renner will next appear in Rian Johnson’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” a sequel to “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and the third installment in the Knives Out film series. Alongside Renner, the star-studded cast includes Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
