Square Enix wants to create a new and exciting experience in the third episode of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project…
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (one of the nominees for Game of the Year at The Game Awards) will not receive DLC, and the Japanese company is trying to bring the sequel to the public a little faster. This was also discussed by the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, in an interview with VG247. He also wants to add a big twist to the project.
“I play a lot of open-world games, and something I feel when I play a lot of these games is that the core mechanics (or their combat systems) and most of the content you encounter, most of the places you can go, most of what you do can get repetitive. These games are just using the same mechanics. There’s no real change, there’s nothing new to experience in the different regions of these worlds.
Of course, there’s a great battle system in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (and there’s a lot of fun in fighting the different monsters in each region), but I wanted it to feel like a breath of fresh air when you entered each different region. To feel like there’s something new and exciting to do when you enter a new area. That you could experience something different with the mechanics. That’s why we wanted to put in so many different mini-games, and I feel like we really accomplished that. It’s just a breath of fresh air in an open world (or ‘open field’ as we call it for Rebirth).
So are we going to continue with the same balance in the future? Have we reached perfection? I think if we just did the same thing for the third game in the series, it wouldn’t be very new or exciting. I want to put a different twist on it, rearrange things a little bit for the next game and have a different look to things. We don’t want to make more of the same, we want to make new and exciting experiences,” Hamaguchi said.
The only question is when this episode will be released…
