Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC brings visual upgrades that push beyond the PS5’s limits, while DLC remains a possibility for the future.
Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, shared exciting updates about the game’s upcoming PC release in an interview with Epic Games. The PC version, set to launch on January 23, will include significantly enhanced lighting, addressing a common critique of the PS5 edition. Additionally, it will feature richer 3D models and higher-quality textures that only high-end PCs can process.
The game will support NVIDIA DLSS and VRR, as revealed in the trailer, along with preset graphical options for users seeking quick and easy configurations. For those who prefer detailed customizations, the PC version offers extensive settings that far surpass the options available in the underwhelming PC port of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Hamaguchi also discussed mods, clarifying that while the game won’t officially support them, the development team welcomes user-created modifications—provided they are neither offensive nor inappropriate. Given the history of mods with Final Fantasy XVI, however, expectations remain cautious.
Originally, the developers considered adding episodic DLC for the PC release but ultimately prioritized completing the trilogy’s final installment. Nonetheless, they remain open to player feedback and may revisit DLC plans if there’s significant demand after the PC launch. This leaves the door open for beloved characters like Cid and Vincent to appear before the trilogy concludes, much like Yuffie did in the acclaimed INTERmission DLC.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is currently available on PlayStation 5 and will debut on PC on January 23.
