James Bond: Amazon Takes Over – Is a Marvel-Style Cinematic Universe Coming?

MOVIE They challenged Amazon for control and lost. From now on, the Prime Video owners have the final say over James Bond, its movies, and spin-offs.

Seismic shifts in the James Bond universe. Weeks ago, reports surfaced about a standoff between the Broccoli family and Amazon & MGM Studios over the franchise’s direction. Now, it’s official: the tech giant holds all creative control. In short, Prime Video’s owners now dictate the future of the legendary spy saga.

End of a 60-Year Family Dynasty

Amazon will now decide who directs and stars in the next James Bond film, as well as any new content derived from the IP. All this amid rumors that the company plans to transform 007 into something akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expanding the franchise with spin-offs, TV series, and interconnected projects.

“After nearly 60 incredible years working with 007, I am stepping away from producing James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Barbara and I both agree: it’s time for our trusted partners at Amazon & MGM Studios to lead James Bond into the future.” – Michael G. Wilson (via BBC).

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will remain the owners of the joint venture overseeing the franchise, but from now on, Amazon & MGM Studios have the sole authority over Bond’s future. It will be up to them to ensure the spy saga thrives—or fades into obscurity like so many failed franchises before it.

Amazon’s Master Plan Unfolds

Amazon acquired MGM Studios in 2022 for $6.5 billion, a deal widely seen as a move to add one of the most iconic cinematic franchises to its entertainment empire. Initially, the company allowed the Broccoli family to maintain creative control, but it seems those days are over.

For four years, the Bond franchise has been in limbo following the release of No Time to Die, Daniel Craig’s final outing as the iconic spy. Now, with Amazon in full control, the pace is expected to accelerate. Announcements for new projects could be just around the corner, and who knows? We might soon see James Bond everywhere. For now, however, no concrete plans have been revealed.
