Supernatural Meets The Boys: A Crossover That Could Heal Old Wounds

The unofficial Supernatural and The Boys season 5 crossover could finally mend thousands of broken hearts. Fans once dreamed of a romance between two beloved Supernatural characters, and now Prime Video’s series reunites the cast years later.

Season 5 of The Boys has been filming for weeks, with Antony Starr even posting an emotional farewell to fans on Instagram. All that’s left is to wait for its 2026 premiere and witness the ultimate showdown between Homelander, Butcher, and the rest of the cast. Yet, some fans are far more interested in the return of the series for reasons unrelated to its main plot.

As reported by GameStar, many Supernatural fans have been keeping a close eye on The Boys. Not only because it comes from Eric Kripke, creator of The CW’s cult hit, but also because several former Supernatural stars will reunite on-screen. For Kripke and his team, this could be a chance to fix one of the most criticized moments of the long-running fantasy show.

The Destiel Controversy

Back in the early days of Supernatural, a fan phenomenon known as “Destiel” emerged, centered on the imagined romance between Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy on The Boys) and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins, newly joining season 5). Their chemistry was undeniable, but the writers never fully committed—engaging instead in what many considered queerbaiting, hinting at an LGBTQ+ relationship without delivering it.

Everything seemed settled until the penultimate episode, “Despair” (15×18). Just when hope was gone, Castiel confessed his love to Dean—only to sacrifice himself moments later. The viral scene caused outrage, with critics blasting the tragic treatment of gay love. As Misha Collins put it at the time: “Castiel tells Dean he loves him and basically makes Destiel canon. Fans freaked out. But then he dies right after. It falls back on that Hollywood trope of ‘kill off the gays.’ We give it to you, we take it away.”

The show never revisited the storyline in its final two episodes, leaving many fans bitter about how it all ended.

Prime Video Reunion Sparks Hope

Now, with Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Jared Padalecki confirmed to appear in at least one episode of The Boys season 5, fan communities have come alive again. Many hope Kripke will use this unofficial crossover to deliver some long-awaited closure, or at least a nod to the relationship that divided and inspired so many viewers. For longtime fans, even the reunion itself feels like vindication.

For anyone wanting to revisit the story, all 15 seasons of Supernatural remain available on HBO Max.
