MOVIE NEWS – Marvel Studios has officially released the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, confirming the long-awaited return fans have been anticipating. Although the footage had already leaked, this marks its first official release.
At 3:00 PM today (peninsular time), Marvel Studios unveiled the first official teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, the next major entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, set to reunite Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The preview does more than revive the team’s iconic motto – it also confirms that Chris Evans will return to the big screen as Captain America.
Well, almost. At present, Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie, is the bearer of the legendary shield. As shown at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers chose to remain in the past to live out a full life with Peggy Carter, returning only as an old man to pass the mantle on to Sam Wilson. That decision was reaffirmed in Captain America: Brave New World, yet Steve Rogers’ true status has remained a mystery ever since.
That mystery is set to be resolved on December 18, 2026, with the worldwide theatrical release of Avengers: Doomsday.
Which Version of Steve Rogers Will We See?
The big question now is which Steve Rogers will appear in this new Avengers installment. A rejuvenated version who traveled back in time? A variant from another Earth? The teaser has reignited wild MCU theories. One particularly heartbreaking scenario, suggested by Chema Mansilla, proposes that our reality may only survive at the cost of losing the universe where Steve Rogers finally found happiness.
This would fit the film’s multiversal premise, as Avengers: Doomsday is expected to feature several realities colliding. It may even allow audiences to see Patrick Stewart’s X-Men one last time, with several original cast members returning. While it is still too early to be certain, the comics – especially the second version of Secret Wars – strongly support these possibilities.
Rumors suggest this teaser is only the first of several, designed to remind audiences that the return of one of the 21st century’s defining cinematic sagas is now just a year away. The MCU has attempted to move forward with new heroes and stories, but the legacy of Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man – with Robert Downey Jr. also returning, this time as Doctor Doom – has weighed heavily on recent projects.
Interestingly, with the teaser now officially available, some fans have lost one of their main reasons to head to theaters for Avatar: Fire and Ash. James Cameron’s film had been screening alongside this trailer in select cinemas, but now that it is widely accessible, it is expected to break viewing records. Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
