According to Hideo Kojima, 2026 will be the year when Kojima Productions begins to finalize its so-called “Third Phase”. Even better, fans can expect more than one surprise in the near future.
As the new year begins, several figures in the entertainment industry have looked back on the past twelve months while outlining their plans for 2026. Hideo Kojima joined them with a social media post that not only reaffirmed Kojima Productions’ commitment to developing OD: Knock and Physint, but also made it clear that 2026 will represent a new evolutionary step for the studio. The best news for gamers is that this work is expected to result in tangible surprises very soon.
Staying true to his habit of maintaining close contact with the community, Kojima shared a message on X that quickly caught players’ attention thanks to the studio’s ambitions for the coming months. “Happy New Year. In 2026, we will continue from Phase Two toward Phase Three of Kojima Productions. Unlike last year, when I was traveling the world due to the promotion and release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, this year will be about staying grounded and laying solid foundations”, he wrote.
“We will continue development on the horror game OD and move forward with the spy action game Physint. This includes casting, scanning, and motion capture”, Kojima explained. “We will also continue work on the live-action Death Stranding film, as well as its animated projects, both the movie and the series. In addition, we are preparing several events this year, and once everything is finalized, I will be able to share more information”.
Coincidentally, 2026 will also mark Kojima’s 40th anniversary in the video game industry. His career began in 1986, when he joined Konami’s MSX division, and after contributing to several projects, he soon went on to create the first Metal Gear game for MSX2.
Kojima Productions’ Projects
Fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about Kojima Productions in 2026. As the creator of Metal Gear himself noted in his message on X, the team is currently working on OD: Knock, Physint, and a range of audiovisual projects that will expand the Death Stranding universe. As is typical of Kojima’s work, these initiatives will retain the distinctive essence of his creations: he has promised that his next horror title will aim to deliver “something never seen before”, while the espionage experience will introduce a special mechanic to set it apart from other games in the genre.
