Forza Horizon 5 Has Reportedly Sold Over 5 Million Copies on PS5, Analyst Claims

The Playground Games racer is said to have already generated roughly $300 million in revenue on PS5, while also climbing to the top of PlayStation sales charts around its release. If these figures are accurate, Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy is turning into a serious money-maker.

Even though many Xbox fans initially reacted with doubt and frustration, Microsoft’s decision to push its games onto other platforms has delivered results. In Q2 2025 alone, Xbox first-party titles reportedly made up 60% of the PS5’s top 10 best-selling games, a clear sign that PlayStation players are more than willing to buy former “Xbox games” when the opportunity exists.

The standout example is Forza Horizon 5. The racing hit reportedly pulled in $100 million within just two months of landing on PS5, and it has now reached another major milestone that highlights its momentum. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliot claims Forza Horizon 5 has surpassed 5 million copies sold on PS5, hitting that landmark this week. In total, the port is said to have generated more than $300 million for Xbox, purely from PlayStation sales. What makes it even more striking is that the game reportedly outsold heavyweight exclusives, selling four times more than Death Stranding last year while leading PlayStation sales charts alongside Oblivion Remastered.

Despite the massive performance, Microsoft still isn’t planning to launch Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 day one. The next entry is expected later this year on PC and Xbox Series X|S, but there is no confirmed release window for a PlayStation version. That delay could prove costly, especially since Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan – PlayStation’s home territory – where demand for a major racing release could be enormous. Overall, however, Microsoft’s multi-platform direction looks increasingly profitable, and with more major Xbox first-party titles making their way to PS5, the company appears set to cash in even further.
