The legendary developer known for making big promises and his team, 22Cans, will release their next god game in a few months-hopefully a godly one.
Masters of Albion is a god game that transcends the genre. Mixing strategy, simulation, town management, and tower defense, the game immerses players in the rich narrative world of Albion. Starting in the undeveloped village of Oakridge, players step into the role of a god. They control the town and its citizens, build a small business, and complete orders for various customers. However, Masters of Albion goes beyond mere city building. It weaves a rich narrative into the gameplay and offers players the opportunity to enter the bodies of the people. Players can explore the world through their eyes as they tackle challenges and quests, battle bandits, search for secrets and treasures, and roam freely across the world.
Masters of Albion is a game of two halves: the days allow for exploration, cozy town-building, and the design and customization of products, workers, and heroes. However, when night falls, the game turns on its head, and each town comes under attack from monsters and beasts. Your goal is to complete the daily tasks and survive the nights so you can continue your journey through the story of Albion and strive to become the Master of the Mask.
Old Albion is gone, swept away by the advance of modern technology. However, magic, once forgotten, seeks to return, curling its fingers around the edges of this world and squeezing the life force from its people. You play the Chosen One, who has been granted godlike powers to shape the world as you see fit in order to defeat an ancient power and a deadly enemy. It is your destiny to defend the people of Albion and wield the power of the Mask as only a pureblood can.
As a god, you control your towns and villages. Design and build every structure. Hire and house your workforce. Customize, paint, and pattern any building with “Weird Designs.” Use an innovative system to combine building types and create unique, multifaceted structures. There are no timers or waiting periods for completing buildings! Build it and it works instantly. Roam freely across Albion’s open world. See the world from a god’s-eye view or possess heroes, dogs, workers, and chickens to explore Albion from the ground up. Complete quests to unlock treasures. Delve into underground caves and battle marauding bandits. Upgrade your heroes with homemade weapons and armor. Touch the grass, kick chickens, and unearth treasures throughout Albion.
Take control with the God Hand and enjoy absolute freedom. Build entire towns. Design clothes, weapons, and armor. Destroy armies of enemies with incredible god powers. Interact with impunity. Possess the living and control their bodies. Use your hand to insult, admire, cajole, or be cruel to your entire workforce. Ignite creatures with balls of fire. Electrocute your enemies with lightning bursting from your fingertips. Throw giant boulders, spiked balls, exploding barrels, or people. Dig for buried treasure. Enjoy the freedom that comes with being a god.
When night falls, malevolent creatures rise up and flock to your towns, destroying everything in their path. Use your godly powers to defend against their onslaught. Construct and arm powerful defensive turrets. Hire heroes and place them strategically in defensive positions. Build walls to delay your enemies or channel them into impending doom. Use your God Hand to rain down terror with lightning and fire-smite your enemies with the vengeance of an immortal! Grab boulders and explosive barrels, then hurl them into the path of the beasts. Possess your heroes and engage your attackers in hand-to-hand combat.
According to Molyneux, Masters of Albion is the culmination of his life’s work. The game draws inspiration from titles such as Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable. They hope it will delight players, introduce God Games to modern gaming, and bring the genre back into the spotlight. 22cans’ game will be released on April 22 for PC.
