The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has just received a mod that CD Projekt RED never officially implemented, and while it still has room to grow, the early results are genuinely promising.
Even though The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally launched back in 2015, it remains hugely popular thanks to the strength of its story and characters, as well as CD Projekt RED‘s post-launch support, which ultimately peaked with the arrival of the next-gen version that introduced new features and improvements to the final chapter of Geralt of Rivia’s journey. The community’s long-running passion also plays a key role in keeping the game alive, with modders consistently releasing upgrades that meaningfully elevate the experience through enhanced visuals – such as the HD Reworked Project, which is set to receive a fresh version this year along with new features. But 2026 has already brought an unexpected addition that could lure even more players back to the Continent: multiplayer.
Developed by Rejuvenate, The Witcher Online introduces a brand-new multiplayer mode that lets users explore the world together by connecting to dedicated servers, while also supporting additional mods like Custom Player Characters and Chill Out for improved role-playing. The combination gives The Witcher 3 a subtle MMO-like vibe, even if only on a small scale. On top of that, the mod includes equipment synchronization, meaning players can see each other’s equipped armor, swords, crossbows, sheaths, hairstyles, and facial markings, as well as full movement and combat syncing aligned with Geralt’s animations. It even supports emotions visible to other players through the appropriate console commands, along with status indicators and plenty more.
That said, the current build available on Nexus Mods isn’t flawless, with issues still present in boss encounters and other areas of the experience. Even so, excitement around the project is clearly high, largely because the concept itself is so enticing. In many ways, this feels like The Witcher in a timeline where Kaer Morhen was never attacked and destroyed – a defining event in the lore that had a major impact on the Witchers living in the ancient fortress hidden deep within the mountains of the Kingdom of Kaedwen.
