Netflix’s co-CEO revealed how the streaming company plans to expand into the gaming industry in 2026.
Greg Peters, Netflix’s co-president, announced that the company will focus on cloud gaming in 2026. In the fourth quarter of 2025, Peters called cloud-based gaming a major step forward and a priority for the streaming giant. However, he acknowledged that the company is still in the early stages of implementation.
“Roughly a third of our members have access to TV-based games as part of upgrading TV technology and clients to handle them. Recently, with our party games on TV, such as Boggle, Pictionary, and LEGO Party!, we’ve seen strong uptake. It’s off a small base — I’d say about 10% of eligible members — but our TV-based games have seen significant engagement growth since the Party Pack launch.
We are just scratching the surface in terms of what we can do in this space today, but we are already seeing multiple instances of how this approach extends audience engagement with the service and story and creates synergies that reinforce both mediums. The interactive and non-interactive sides, that is. This drives more engagement and retention. In short, we’re optimistic about the opportunities. We’re making progress, but we have a lot more work to do. As with all our developing initiatives, we will increase our investment based on demonstrated value to members and returns to the business,” Peters said.
Netflix is currently planning to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. After Netflix announced last month that it would buy Warner Bros. for $82.7 billion (including the gaming division), Paramount Skydance made a hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery as a whole. However, Netflix’s board quickly rejected the bid not once, but twice.
This consolidation does not seem promising, but we feel that the cobbler should stick to his last.
