Beast of Reincarnation has revealed more about its setting, story, and what kind of experience it’s aiming for. The game arrives this summer – and it’s also coming to PS5.

While Playground Games ended up taking a huge chunk of tonight’s Xbox Developer Direct, we also got a proper look at Game Freak’s upcoming Beast of Reincarnation – and it appears to be a far cry from the Pokémon titles the studio is best known for.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, where a deadly blight has spread across much of the world. Most enemies are so-called malefacts – twisted plant-and-animal hybrids – which you’ll fight through a combat system that blends fast-paced action with some turn-based elements, while issuing commands to your wolf companion, Koo.

The main character, Emma, travels alongside Koo on a mission to defeat the Beast of Reincarnation. That journey will take players across a variety of environments, throw numerous bosses in your way, and it’s all set to launch this summer on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5.
