Spiders and Nacon are preparing to close the early access chapter for GreedFall: The Dying World, and that shift also means the action RPG won’t be PC-only for much longer.
The story kicks off three years before the events of the first game and De Sardet’s journey. This time, you step into the role of a Teer Fradee native who is forcibly torn away from the island and taken to the colonists’ homeland on the continent of Gacane. In an old world battered by war, scarred by the Malichor plague, and riddled with factional scheming, your objective is to reclaim your freedom and take back control of your destiny. Whether you rely on diplomacy, cunning, outright combat, or the allies you gather along the way, it’s ultimately on you to stop a single man’s drive for conquest – ambitions that could spell disaster for both the continent and your home.
GreedFall’s distinctive setting opens up from a new angle as you explore the old continent itself. You’ll travel across fresh landscapes, from Olima – the Bridge Alliance’s “City of Stars” – all the way to the shores of Uxantis, uncovering the secrets buried in these ancient lands. Along the way, you’ll meet the factions that control these nations and try to survive the dangerous currents of their plots and conspiracies. You’ll also build your own character and recruit allies to your party, helping them through personal quests while learning what they’re hiding. The relationships are in your hands as well: friends, rivals, and even romances are on the table. Beyond gearing companions however you like, you can also take direct control of them in combat. The promise is a deeper RPG where every decision ripples outward, and where diplomacy, manipulation, infiltration, and fighting are all viable ways to reach your goals.
There’s also a notable change in the branding. Spiders and Nacon originally announced the project as GreedFall II: The Dying World, but the “II” has since been dropped – seemingly because the number didn’t land as intended. The game has been playable on PC in early access for over a year, starting on September 24, 2024. On March 12, it will leave early access and release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series alongside its full launch.
