Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition: Has One of Ubisoft’s Plans Been Revealed?

While the French publisher is still struggling, what Ubisoft may have been quietly preparing has come to light.

The Australian Classification Board has rated Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. There is a notable twist, however, when it comes to the listed publisher. While U&I Entertainment appears in the documentation, the actual publisher is not Ubisoft, but Atari. Although Atari is also a France-based company, it is not connected to Yves Guillemot’s organization. Still, there is a logical explanation for Atari’s involvement.

Atari has previously worked with legacy IPs that are not part of its own classic catalog. One example is Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. U&I Entertainment has also handled physical distribution for both Ubisoft and Atari in the past, including titles such as The Rogue Prince of Persia, which was critically praised but commercially unsuccessful. This strongly suggests that the Australian rating applies to the physical editions – otherwise, the developers would likely have been disclosed.

Back in September, Ubisoft’s Montpellier and Milan studios hinted that they were working together on the future of Rayman, something we also reported on at the time. More recently, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who has repeatedly provided accurate information about developments at Ubisoft, claimed that two Rayman projects are currently in development.

One of these projects is codenamed Iceman and is reportedly scheduled for release in the near future to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. (Somewhat ironically, Rayman originally launched on PS1 in early September 1995.) The second project is said to be codenamed Steambot and is rumored to be a remake of Rayman Legends. While neither project has been officially confirmed, the rating of Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition is almost certainly linked to Iceman.

For now, all that remains is to wait. Until Ubisoft makes an official announcement, everything remains in the realm of speculation. The real question is whether this will actually help the struggling French publisher.
