Nintendo Censored One of 2025’s Best Games – Dispatch Hits Switch in a Cut Version

Another censorship case, this time involving one of the best games of 2025. Dispatch’s Nintendo Switch version differs from the others. AdHoc Studio says that despite the changes, “the core narrative and gameplay experience remain identical to the original version.”

2025 was a strong year for video games. We saw spectacular action titles, memorable RPGs, and numerous heartfelt indie releases, and AdHoc Studio’s Dispatch joined that lineup as one of the biggest hits of recent months. Its popularity was so high that the developers quickly confirmed Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions, which are available starting today, January 28, on the hybrid consoles. However, the launch came with a twist: parts of the game had to be censored to make it into Nintendo’s catalog.

Dispatch is a narrative-driven experience that puts players in the role of Robert Robertson, aka Mecha Man, whose mechanical suit is destroyed in a battle against his archenemy. Instead of leaving the world of superhumans behind, he is forced to manage a group of dysfunctional heroes, leading to story-shaping decisions and opportunities to build new relationships. AdHoc Studio included several sexual scenes and explicit content in the game, which apparently raised red flags at Nintendo.

As a result, Dispatch has launched on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in a censored version aligned with the Japanese company’s content standards. “Different platforms have different criteria for evaluating content, and releases are assessed individually. We worked with Nintendo to ensure the title meets their release requirements, but the core narrative and gameplay experience remain identical to the original version,” AdHoc Studio said in a statement sent to Eurogamer UK.

Even though the developers did not alter the core gameplay systems, players quickly criticized Nintendo’s content policies, especially considering that the eShop is filled with titles openly using the term “hentai.” Still, AdHoc Studio accepted Nintendo’s conditions, meaning Dispatch is only available in censored form on those platforms.

Dispatch Will Be Eligible for The Game Awards 2026

AdHoc Studio is confident the game has been a success, but it also found itself in an unusual situation. While its first episodes premiered on October 22, 2025, the season did not conclude until mid-November, which prevented the title from being considered for The Game Awards 2025. Geoff Keighley, host of the event, has confirmed that Dispatch will be eligible to compete at The Game Awards 2026.
