Remedy has reiterated this to avoid confusion. Control Resonant will not feature an open world, although that is only one of several aspects clarified about the action RPG. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen stresses that the game uses an “open environment” structure and shares further details about the experience.
Remedy has already locked in 2026 as the year it plans to impress players with Control Resonant. The studio, which revealed the project at The Game Awards 2025, has begun its marketing campaign and is gradually sharing information about the adventure players will experience as Dylan Faden. One key point the team wanted to clarify is that the game is not open world, but built around an “open environment” design.
Mikael Kasurinen reinforced this in an interview with Game Informer, where he discussed narrative and gameplay elements. Regarding the spaces Dylan explores, he explains the title is structured as an “open stage” experience with fast traversal, warped environments, and spectacular powers and weapons.
“I think our movement system will stand out, and we combine melee combat with supernatural abilities and boosts in a unique way,” he said. Kasurinen describes the game as an action RPG featuring more meaningful progression, real choices, and distinct builds. The story takes place seven years after the events of the original Control.
Remedy does not aim to imitate other successful action RPGs, but to present its own take on the genre. “It’s not just about entering a new genre for us, but about discovering Remedy’s interpretation of it,” Kasurinen noted. “Control was the first step. Now we’re ready for the next leap.”
Control Resonant Already Has a Release Window
The reveal at The Game Awards 2025 came with a 2026 launch promise. While no exact date is confirmed, a Remedy financial report placed the release window toward the end of the second quarter. More details and surprises are expected in the coming months, possibly including a specific release date.
