Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, Inception, Interstellar) always finds a way to surprise moviegoers, and his latest film is no exception. By all expectations, The Odyssey is set to enter film history as a project of extremes: it is the first production shot entirely in IMAX format, and even the smallest roles have been filled with major stars. That latter point is underlined by a fresh, intriguing detail. A new teaser for The Odyssey confirms the rumor: Grammy-winning rapper Travis Scott has joined the cast. Until now, Nolan had only said that the rapper was part of the production team, but it was unclear what task he had been given. The new trailer reveals that Travis has an important speaking part: in a hall, he prophesies to Menelaus (Jon Bernthal) and Telemachus (Tom Holland) that war is approaching, one in which Troy will be burned to ash.
Some commenters expressed shock, as they did not expect Travis Scott to appear in a classic dramatic role so far removed from what he is known for, while others lament that rappers nowadays increasingly want to become movie stars instead of doing what they do best. In the end, those prevailed who argue that a collaboration between two geniuses as big as Nolan and Scott is bound to produce something good.
The Odyssey lines up so many big stars around the Greek myth’s greatest war conflict that listing them can only be partial: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron., Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, James Remar, John Leguizamo.
