Back in the Saddle – How to Train Your Dragon 2 Is Already Filming

MOVIE NEWS – Writer-director Dean DeBlois announced on social media that the team is back in the saddle, meaning production is underway on the live-action sequel to the hugely successful How to Train Your Dragon.

For now, all that’s known about the story is that the two main heroes, Hiccup and his dragon Toothless, discover a secret ice cave hiding wild dragons and a mysterious Dragon Rider, which sets off a war in which the survival of humans and dragons will be at stake.

Of course, the sequel brings back the lead actors audiences grew to like in the previous film: Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, and Cate Blanchett.

The How to Train Your Dragon franchise has been an astonishing financial success over the years. The three original animated films and the live-action remake released in 2025 have generated more than 2.2 billion dollars at the global box office combined.
