The Witcher Shake-Up That Could Change Everything – Why the Remake May Slip

One analyst is fairly certain that CD Projekt has internally delayed The Witcher remake in order to accelerate production of its most ambitious game to date. A Polish investment bank that tracks CD Projekt’s stock suggests that the studio behind The Witcher remake is currently helping with TW4. One expert is quite convinced that CD Projekt has indeed pushed back the schedule of The Witcher remake.

It has been a long time since The Witcher remake was announced, specifically in October 2022, when the promise was to rebuild the RPG that started the entire saga completely from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. Since then, we have received very little official information, while the community is eager to step into the boots of Geralt of Rivia once again. CD Projekt’s silence, however, has led many to believe that the RPG will take significantly longer than originally expected in 2022, and now a report appears to reinforce that idea.

Is The Witcher Remake Delayed?

Noble Securities, a Polish investment bank that monitors CD Projekt’s stock, has indicated that the remake’s release has been internally postponed to 2028. The reason is not a lack of ambition or technical problems, but rather a strategic decision to prioritize another title within the franchise. According to the analyst’s report, CD Projekt has temporarily reassigned Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio that had been leading development of the remake.

This decision was reportedly made so that Fool’s Theory could assist with the production of The Witcher 4 alongside CD Projekt’s more than 400 developers. This shift would have slowed progress on the reimagining of the first game in the series, which was already in an early stage of development, according to Noble Securities. Fool’s Theory includes veterans who worked on previous Witcher installments, making them a valuable resource for accelerating development of the fourth game.

It is important to note that CD Projekt Red has not officially confirmed this delay, so the information should be treated as an estimate based on a bank’s analysis rather than an official statement from the studio. While Noble Securities is a respected financial institution with access to market data, its projections do not always reflect the exact internal plans of the companies they cover. Even so, analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski believes that CD Projekt and some at Fool’s Theory are also working on a major expansion for The Witcher 3.

If The Witcher remake eventually arrives in the coming years, it will not be a simple remaster with improved textures. CD Projekt made it clear from the announcement that this is a complex remake of the original 2007 game, rebuilt with Unreal Engine 5 and transformed into an open-world experience closer in structure to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
