MOVIE NEWS – A serious flare-up has erupted around The Odyssey, more specifically because not everyone likes the idea that Lupita Nyong’O is reportedly playing Helen in the new adaptation of Homer’s epic – the abduction that sparked the Trojan War. (It is not certain that the Oscar-winning actress is actually playing Helen; all that is known is that she has a role in the film.) Some people online complain that the actress is Black, which they say reflects a “historically inaccurate” approach.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, also weighed in on the matter on X, which he owns, claiming that the film’s director, Christopher Nolan, had “lost his integrity” by casting Nyong’O. His post received 25,000 likes.
Whoopi Goldberg then delivered a response on the talk show The View that the billionaire likely won’t be framing. She began by saying Musk probably imagines Helen as a porcelain-white, blonde woman whose beauty is so overwhelming that men would start a war for her. But it is worth remembering, the comedian stressed, that Lupita is also considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. Then came the heavy artillery: “I suggest you look in the mirror if people’s looks are what you care about. Don’t try to humiliate me, baby – I already know what I look like. I could say a lot of really ugly things to you right now, but I won’t. Just be aware of what might be going through my mind!”
