MachineGames Says the Quiet Part Out Loud Again – They Still Want to Return to Wolfenstein and Finish the Trilogy

The makers of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are once again saying they’ve always dreamed of building Wolfenstein, and that’s exactly what fans hoping for a third game want to hear. Jerk Gustafsson, director at MachineGames, repeats that they want to “return to Wolfenstein and “finish the trilogy”.

Something is clearly brewing at MachineGames, and it’s only feeding the growing hopes for Wolfenstein 3. Back in September 2025, the studio referenced its iconic action franchise again and stressed that, spin-offs aside, the series was conceived as a trilogy, with the developers eager to wrap up BJ’s story. Now the company’s director has underlined that same idea in a short comment that will inevitably energize everyone who has been waiting years for word on the third entry.

This time, it was Jerk Gustafsson, MachineGames‘ director, who spoke about the team’s desire to go back to the Wolfenstein universe in an interview with GamesIndustry. “Our intention has always been to return to Wolfenstein.” “We wanted to finish the trilogy.” “And when we’ll do it, that’s something I don’t want to comment on.” “It could be now, it could be later, but we’re not finished with it [the saga].” “That’s all I can say.”

Alongside that, MachineGames is also marking the opening of new offices in Sundsvall, Sweden, for employees they’ve been collaborating with for years. “We had some programmers from that area working for us for a long time – incredible talent.” “Then we started working with a couple more people from there, and eventually, we figured, well, we have so many people working remotely that we might as well set up a small office for them.”

MachineGames‘ plan, however, is not to expand without limits. Rather than chasing a major headcount jump, the creators of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have chosen to keep their studios below 200 people. There’s no shortage of concepts to keep that full team busy for years, and Gustafsson admits he’s mapping out “at least a couple of games” for the future while shaping production so projects can be “adjusted very early” during development. In other words, MachineGames has staff availability, more resources than before, a forward-looking strategy, and a strong appetite to return to Wolfenstein. Put together, that mix will surely have more than a few players imagining the third installment arriving within the next few years.

What happened to Wolfenstein 3?

Wolfenstein 3 isn’t pure fantasy, even if it has felt that way for a while. The project was officially announced in 2018, yet MachineGames and Bethesda haven’t shared a single additional detail about the experience or where development currently stands. Now, with so much renewed talk about Wolfenstein 3 coming from the team, the appetite for an official update is only getting stronger. Still, as is typical with video game industry news, we’ll have to wait until MachineGames is ready to reveal what comes next.
