One of the best RPGs of 2024 is coming to Switch 2, and it brings a collector-friendly surprise with it. Nintendo has finally announced a release date for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: the second remake chapter of Final Fantasy VII launches in June 2026, and a physical edition will include an exclusive Magic card.
Today’s Square Enix is no longer the company it was 15 years ago. After going through a difficult period, the Japanese giant announced a major shift in how it works and how it launches its own projects, embracing a multiplatform strategy that became crystal clear two years ago when its latest Final Fantasy releases arrived on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, and now it is Rebirth’s turn. The second chapter of Final Fantasy VII Remake had already confirmed its release on Microsoft consoles, and for the Japanese hybrid console it had been limited, until now, to a broad first-half-of-2026 window.
In this case, it was during the Nintendo Direct – Partner Showcase that the Japanese company confirmed the RPG’s arrival on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, 2026, alongside a first playable look at the project. While it did not share concrete figures or data about performance or visual quality, we did see the game running at 30 FPS, with visuals that line up with expectations for the new hybrid console.
The Physical Edition of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth Comes with an Exclusive Gift
What is clear is that Rebirth’s arrival on Switch 2 completes a circle for Square Enix. This release comes just a few months after Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launched on the console on January 22. On top of that, the game will be available not only digitally but also in a physical edition, although it is currently unknown whether the full title will be included on the cartridge or if additional downloads will be required.
In parallel, Square Enix has announced a special pre-order bonus: all editions will include extra digital content. Moreover, players who pre-order the physical edition for Nintendo Switch 2 will receive, while supplies last, an exclusive Magic: The Gathering – FINAL FANTASY card featuring Zack Fair, with alternate artwork illustrated by Tetsuya Nomura – an incentive clearly aimed at collectors and longtime fans of the series.
It has also been confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will arrive on Xbox Series X|S on the same day as on Switch 2: June 3, 2026. In fact, it is an Xbox Play Anywhere-compatible title.
The exact release date for the RPG’s Xbox Series X|S version, the project’s next step, is still unknown. For now, the only available information points to a summer 2026 release, which raises the possibility that the Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2 versions could ultimately launch on the same day and in the same month.
