The director of Baldur’s Gate 3 was pushed into speaking about the ending of his new role-playing game, even if he only shared four words. During a Larian Studios stream, a player asked Swen Vincke about how Divinity wraps up, and he hinted it will finish with “a lot of fire.”
We are still light years away from Larian Studios’ next project, yet excitement for an RPG we have only seen through a cinematic trailer is already sky high. This is not only because the team previously created Baldur’s Gate 3, but also because Swen Vincke, the director behind the 2023 Game of the Year, is back in the director’s chair despite recent controversies. Anticipation around Divinity has grown so intense that it ultimately pushed Vincke himself to comment on the ending of his upcoming game, even though the project is not finished.
As part of a live stream focused on Divinity: Original Sin 2, hosted by Larian Studios and featuring several team members including Vincke, a viewer asked the Belgian developer how Divinity, his new title, would conclude. At first, the creative director avoided giving a real answer, joking that the story would end with the credits rolling.

However, people watching the stream remembered that Vincke had sworn earlier to tell the truth after rolling a 19 on a 20-sided die, which left almost no room to dodge the question. Using that as leverage, the director eventually gave in and revealed a key clue about the ending: “It ends with a lot of fire,” Vincke admitted.
The moment became even stranger when Vincke confirmed that this detail truly belongs to a preliminary version of the story’s ending, while also clarifying that the final result will depend on the player’s choices. But what kind of ending does that imply? The Belgian developer declined to elaborate, although many players believe that, following the structure seen in Baldur’s Gate 3, the adventure could even conclude within just a few hours of starting the game, meaning this hint might not refer to the very final stretch of the narrative.
What is certain is that players are eager to discover how many different endings the new RPG will feature and what kinds of situations the studio will put in front of them. Even though Vincke ended his statement with a cautious “maybe” to cover the small margin left by the dice roll, it is clear we will have to wait patiently, because, as he himself pointed out, nothing about the project is set in stone yet.
