Could the Samsung Galaxy Ring Become a Ticking Time Bomb?

TECH NEWS – Due to the risk of extreme pain, it is advisable to use the South Korean company’s smart ring with extreme caution.

Samsung has been concerned about the Galaxy Ring ever since a user’s device swelled up on their finger just before boarding a plane. Another Galaxy Ring recently swelled up, but this time, it does not appear that the South Korean giant is at fault. A Reddit user recently described their terrible experience with the Galaxy Ring in detail, which could have resulted in injury. The user purchased the Galaxy Ring immediately after its release in July 2024. However, around April of last year, about nine months after purchase, the device’s battery no longer held a charge.

The user continued to wear the ring because they were accustomed to having it on their finger. Earlier this week, however, he tried to charge the device and was surprised to find that it would not fit into the charger. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the Galaxy Ring had secretly swollen, essentially becoming a ticking time bomb. Samsung cannot be held responsible for this. The user could have easily replaced the Galaxy Ring‘s battery during the warranty period. Instead, he chose to continue wearing the defective product.

This anecdote serves as a warning that products with faulty batteries must be handled with the utmost care and caution. After all, using a device with a swollen battery is never advisable. Whether it’s a smart ring or a smartphone, it is strongly recommended that you replace the battery if possible. Often, we cannot simply buy a new device.

Meanwhile, the legal dispute between Samsung and Oura, the undisputed leader in the smart ring market, over alleged patent infringements is delaying the release of the Galaxy Ring 2. It is currently unclear when Samsung will be able to launch the next generation of the device.
