The Worst PS5 Exclusive Of 2026 So Far Is Getting A Sequel – And The Studio Calls It A Success

It launched as a PS5 exclusive and has, so far, earned the reputation of being 2026’s worst game, yet it’s still getting a follow-up. Teamkill Media insists Code Violet was a “success,” and claims that positive reception is exactly what led to Code UltraViolet.

It’s not common for a brand-new release – especially from a small studio – to have its next project announced this quickly, but Teamkill Media is pushing ahead anyway. Code Violet, a dinosaur shooter released on PS5, landed only a month ago and was met with extremely negative reactions from both players and critics. Even so, the studio has stepped forward not only to frame the first game as a hit, but also to confirm that a sequel is in the works.

As already seen, Code Violet arrived on Sony’s console to a brutally poor reception. On Metacritic, it sits at a 29 critic score and a 2.6 user score, which currently places it as 2026’s worst-rated game. On the PlayStation Store, verified buyers have it at 2.88 on average across nearly 4,000 reviews, and 36% of purchasers left a one-star rating, underlining the scale of the disappointment.

Code UltraViolet was born out of the “success” story

That backlash, however, doesn’t seem to have reached Teamkill Media. It’s still unclear whether this is an early April Fools’ setup. The studio, in any case, has stated the original release was an “overwhelming success,” and says it is moving forward thanks to the “incredible support” from fans.

With that framing, the studio has announced Code UltraViolet, a sequel that appears set to follow the same formula as the first game. The most striking part is that, despite everything, Teamkill Media is confident the sequel can fix the first game’s mistakes and deliver a sturdier experience that can finally attract positive reviews instead of more backlash. The real question is whether players will be willing to give the series another chance.

For now, no concrete information has been shared about gameplay, story details, or a release date, leaving the sequel surrounded by unanswered questions.
