One of 2026’s best-looking open-world fantasy MMOs has just been pushed back, and it is not the only casualty. In Kakao Games’ financial report, both Chrono Odyssey and ArcheAge Chronicles are listed as delayed, with the former now targeting 2027.
Video games are in a messy stretch right now, and MMOs are feeling it too. Between Ashes of Creation launching and then being scrapped, and Throne and Liberty stumbling in 2024, the genre has not exactly been on a winning streak, even though Chrono Odyssey and ArcheAge Chronicles looked like the next big bets. Now Kakao Games has put two pieces of bad news in its latest financial filing: both projects have slipped, and one of them by a lot.
As previously noted, the South Korean publisher’s report shifts the release windows for both titles. ArcheAge Chronicles, the MMO from XL Games, is the one that moves the least, and it is now slated for Q4 2026, meaning sometime between September and December. Chrono Odyssey takes the heavier hit, with its launch pushed to Q1 2027.
That stings because Chrono Odyssey had already been delayed once to make room for major rework and upgrades after playtests that failed to impress. At the time, the explanation was that several systems felt unintuitive and core mechanics were not landing as players expected, so the team needed more runway.
ArcheAge Chronicles has had its own stop-and-start development, including earlier delays, a renamed title, and a reset of its creative direction. Even with a handful of videos and scattered details released, much of the plan for its multi-platform rollout has stayed under wraps. This newest slide into late 2026 looks more like scheduling and logistics than a sign of serious technical trouble.
Despite the setbacks, the developers and the company insist the extra months should translate into a more polished and more satisfying game. In fact, Kakao Games points to a generally upbeat trajectory, highlighting increased PC investment and broader thematic expansion via projects such as God Save Birmingham.
