Before Game Pass, You Can Try This Apocalypse Shooter in a Ruined Paris for Free – but Only Briefly on PC

Before its Game Pass launch, you can try this apocalyptic shooter set in a shattered Paris for free, but only on PC and only for a limited window. Armatus, the shooter from Counterplay Games Inc., is getting a demo as part of February’s Steam Next Fest.

The lineup for next week’s Steam Next Fest is starting to take shape, and while some games – like Arkheron – can already be played before the event begins, others arrive on February 23 and still deserve a close look. In this case, the spotlight is on Armatus, a roguelike shooter with RPG mechanics set in a Paris wrecked by an apocalyptic disaster where Heaven and Hell are at war. It is a project worth tracking, and as already noted, its demo will be available in just a few days.

According to the studio’s website, players in Armatus will battle through a devastated cityscape where demons roam the streets of what used to be a thriving capital. A band of survivors has taken shelter inside a sacred sanctuary, and only we, as the last warrior of a celestial order, can push through the chaos and save them while the ruins of Paris turn into a monster-filled hellscape.

From a gameplay standpoint, Armatus is not coy about its influences. Its third-person action clearly draws from Remnant, though it appears to move with more agility than Gunfire‘s game. What really separates it, however, is the roguelike structure. Each run begins with a scythe and a pistol, and you will need to improve that starter loadout as you move through the stages so that, after the next death, you can push slightly farther and reach the next area. Every attempt is meant to be a test, and while the first few runs may feel punishing, the studio says players will earn experience to unlock new abilities and gain access to a stronger pool of starting weapons.

The Armatus Demo Will Be Playable in a Few Days

With that in mind, the Armatus demo should be the perfect chance to settle any doubts about whether this is a game worth following. Fictions Publishing and Counterplay Games will release the demo for all players on Steam starting at 7:00 PM (Spanish mainland time) on February 23. The trial period will remain active until March 2, but it will only be available on PC.

Beyond the demo, it is already confirmed that Armatus will launch sometime in 2026 on PC (via Steam, not the Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, although the exact release date has not been announced yet. In addition, the Xbox and PC editions will also be available on Game Pass on day one.
