After venturing into Greek and Norse mythology, Kratos may find himself on a new plane – or among new gods.
God of War: Ragnarök marks the end of Kratos and Atreus’s Norse saga. The next installment in Santa Monica Studio’s series is expected to move to a very different setting, where the two protagonists will clash with ancient gods. Rumors about a possible Ancient Egypt backdrop have been circulating for a while, and they may not be far from the truth, as newly uncovered information in the God of War: Ragnarök files strongly points toward such a location.
On Reddit, a user claims to have found hidden scenes in the game’s files that could represent the opening of the next entry. This would not be the first time something like this happened, since the beginning of Ragnarök was also hidden in the files of 2018’s God of War. The hidden scene reportedly features Atreus traveling to other pantheons alongside someone named Mau.

“The scene features, in my view, higher-plane beings and Athena talking about Odin and Atreus. There’s also another character called the Robed Figure, who says, ‘To lefkó fídi tha se fáei.’ That’s Greek for ‘The white snake will eat you.’ I think this Robed Figure is Athena herself before she reveals her face, similar to how Baldur was called The Stranger and Freya the Hermit Witch before their names were revealed. This being communicates only by using the word ‘Mau,’ similar to how Groot only says ‘I’m Groot’ and people understand him. Atreus clearly understands this person thanks to the godly gift of language he received. Mau means ‘cat’ in Egyptian and is also one of the manifestations of the sun god Ra,” the user explained, citing direct dialogue between Atreus and Mau, as well as between the Robed Figure and Athena, as supporting evidence.
“One of them abandoned us. The other rejected us,” the cloaked figure tells Athena in the scene, presumably referring to Odin, who abandoned them, and Atreus, who rejected them – a setup that could lead to a very interesting stage for the series’ next chapter. Since the next God of War has not been officially announced, it remains unclear whether these newly discovered scenes will actually form the basis of the next installment.
