With the studio’s last two major releases landing around the same time of year, it is hardly surprising that Sony’s team is sticking to what already works.
Marvel’s Wolverine is positioned as an all-new take on one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel comics lineup. From Insomniac Games, the critically acclaimed developer behind the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, the project is being built in collaboration with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment. As he digs for answers about his past, Wolverine is ready to do whatever it takes to cut through the mystery of who he used to be, leaning into brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination.
The game is described as a showcase of Insomniac staples: fast, fluid, ferocious combat, big action set pieces, robust accessibility options, and a gripping story rooted in the core tenets of one of comics’ most compelling figures. It leans into a darker, more brutal side of Logan’s heroism than many players might associate with the studio. Wolverine often operates alone, but he will cross paths with familiar names along the way, including the elusive Mystique and the brutish Omega Red. Some characters will fight alongside Logan against impossible odds, while others will come at him head-on – the Reavers, for example, are framed as a hostile faction that keeps his instincts constantly on edge.
In this original story, Wolverine hunts for the secrets of a dark past that keeps slipping out of reach. The search pushes him into dangerous journeys across exotic locations, including the island nation of Madripoor, the frozen wilderness of Canada, and the narrow streets of Tokyo – each one presented as a potential battleground for intense, bloody, destructive action.
Who’s ready for September 15, 2026?

Sony Interactive Entertainment could have dropped the release date during the State of Play broadcast a few weeks ago, but it did not, which is difficult to understand. Instead, Sony made the announcement separately, confirming that Marvel’s Wolverine launches on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. Considering that Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and even the in-between release Miles Morales all arrived in the fall, this window is clearly a familiar, functional slot for Insomniac Games – and the studio appears content to keep riding that proven timing.
