He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction: Retro Brawler [VIDEO]

Bitmap Bureau and Limited Run Games are developing a side-scrolling beat ’em up game.

After Skeletor discovers the ancient Dragon Pearl of Destruction, a relic with unspeakable power, he joins forces with Evil-Lyn to plunge Eternia into eternal darkness. Only He-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Teela stand between the planet and total collapse. Built by retro specialists at Bitmap Bureau in collaboration with Mattel, this is an all-new 2D arcade brawler shaped by the classic animated series. The pace is fast, the vibe is old-school, and the fights lean on character identity rather than generic punches. Unique abilities and big, screen-clearing powers are part of the hook.

You can experience Eternia in a form that looks like the original 1980s cartoon brought to life, with massive, highly detailed pixel art and lush environments. The playable roster starts with He-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Teela. She-Ra is also planned as an unlockable character in future playthroughs. Each hero is built around a distinct play style, from He-Man’s raw strength to Teela’s agile staff work. It wouldn’t be Masters of the Universe without Battle Cat. You can ride He-Man’s fierce feline companion and shred Skeletor’s minions in the process.

The campaign takes you across twelve stages, from the Royal Palace and the Vine Jungle to the dark corridors of Snake Mountain. You can also team up with a friend in two-player local co-op to hand out double the justice. It’s designed for players who grew up fighting side-by-side at the arcade. On the enemy side, you’ll face iconic names like Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw. The lineup also includes appearances by the dark sorceress Shokoti and the Shadow Beasts.

It’s already been confirmed that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction launches on April 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
