A single forum rumor out of China claims PlatinumGames is juggling three major efforts at once – a new Bayonetta built on Unreal Engine 5, plus remakes of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It is still just one source, but it is getting traction because the same account is said to have shared accurate details ahead of Ninja Gaiden 4.
The claim surfaced on a Chinese gaming forum and lays out a three-part slate. At the top is a brand-new, Unreal Engine 5-powered Bayonetta entry, followed by two remakes: a rebuilt version of the original Bayonetta and a remake of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The obvious problem is that everything hinges on a single rumor chain, so skepticism is mandatory.
The biggest headline inside the rumor is the next mainline Bayonetta. It allegedly uses Unreal Engine 5 and is still a long way off, with a likely window around 2028. The same post also makes an aggressive budget claim, saying the project is operating at a level comparable to Final Fantasy XVI, which is precisely the kind of detail that should raise eyebrows until anything official exists.
The near-term part of the story is framed as the bridge to that longer wait. According to the same source, remakes of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance are also in development, again supposedly in Unreal Engine 5. The rumor says both remakes could be announced this year, with releases targeted for 2027.
There is at least a surface-level logic to why people are entertaining it. After Ninja Gaiden 4, PlatinumGames is clearly working on something, and Bayonetta is one of the most obvious lanes. That fits with earlier comments from creator Kamiya Hideki indicating the series could continue at PlatinumGames without him, meaning the franchise is not necessarily tied to his direct involvement.
The Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance angle is being linked to Konami’s current push to make the broader series more accessible on modern platforms through releases like the Metal Gear Solid Collection. From that perspective, the argument is that Konami could keep mining remakes and remasters for momentum, and commissioning PlatinumGames to bring back the most action-forward Metal Gear title would be an easier sell than building a new mainline entry, especially with Kojima Hideo no longer at Konami.
Beyond the rumor itself, there are other signals of activity. It has already been said publicly that NieR: Automata, now past 10 million in sales, will continue in some form, and an August job listing pointed to PlatinumGames staffing up for an online action game. None of that confirms anything about remakes, but it does suggest multiple tracks could be in play.
For now, the bottom line is simple: it is one rumor, and the details are big enough that they should be treated as noise until there is something official to back them up.
