Netflix’s Next Sci-Fi Blockbuster Left Reacher Star Alan Ritchson Completely Wrecked, and the Trailer Looks Unhinged

MOZI HÍREK – Netflix’s new sci-fi film pushed Reacher star Alan Ritchson to the edge. War Machine is shaping up to be the service’s big blockbuster for the first stretch of the year. It looks completely insane.

In six days, Netflix will drop what is being positioned as one of the biggest streaming hits of the first half of the year: War Machine. The action-heavy sci-fi pits a squad of elite American soldiers against an unknown threat, and the setup is built to make its leads sweat for real. That includes Alan Ritchson, the former Aquaman actor and the face of Reacher, who looks visibly drained in the newest trailer for Patrick Hughes’ film.

We already mentioned how the trailer Netflix shared a few weeks ago made it feel like we were staring at a kind of 21st-century Predator. The difference is that, instead of a Yautja, the antagonist here comes off more like a Metal Gear nightmare. Whether that villain sells on screen will depend, to a large extent, on the special-effects and practical-effects teams. On the human side, though, the director wanted Ritchson and the rest of the cast to go all-in during a shoot defined by physical exhaustion, aiming to replicate the Ranger selection program as faithfully as possible. Hopefully, the film manages to translate that effort into the final result.

For now, all we can do is share what Reacher himself – who also appears in the movie – said about it: “I’ve never been so tired.” In this case, though, I think the footage says even more about what shape he was in. “He’s not acting,” director Patrick Hughes pointed out. We’ll see how it all comes together once we can watch War Machine on March 6. I’m going to leave a review after I watch it, because I’m absolutely checking this one out.

But What Is War Machine About?

Honestly, what intrigues me most so far is how much mystery the story is still keeping. Both the trailer and the synopsis basically say that a training exercise for an elite team turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat. We know that threat resembles a massive armored vehicle, but where did it come from, and what is it. Is it alien in origin, or some secret government program?
